AL SHAMIL Insurance Programme

Al Shamil Insurance Programme was originally developed by National Human Resources Development Committee in Banking &Financial Sector (HRDC) incorporation with Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Studies to be an actual reflection of the new visions and strategy for training and emiratisation in insurance industry. Al Shmail has two aims:

To provide high quality training for young UAE nationals in the insurance domain.
To establish a new phase of training to meet the latest changes, needs and demands of insurance market namely in UAE.

Highlights and objectives of the Programme:

The most significant feature of the Programme is that it is designed for nationals who wish to qualify themselves for jobs in the insurance sector. Al Shamil Insurance Programme covers the basics of the job functions in the insurance sector and ensures the familiarisation of the trainee with the work ethics.

Further, the programme imparts the trainees the personal and professional skills needed in the job front.

Programme Procedure:

The Programme is carried out in the following phased manner:

Test of Standard (English Language): The purpose of this test is to assess the standard of the trainees in English language, as it is important for the implementation of the Programme in the light of the market demands.

The first Stage consists of two parts:

Part 1

Intensive English Course: It is a two-week course for revision of English grammar, vocabulary and conversation with focus of Business English.

Part II

Insurance terminology (Arabic and English):
The trainee is familiarised with terms used in various segments of insurance, financial jargons an phrases and terms used in investment, risk management and other symbols and abbreviations commonly used in insurance.

Stage II

Insurance Principles: This stage is an introduction to the insurance law applicable in the United Arab Emirates and the insurance policies and principles conforming to international standards and norms as well as the fundamentals of operations in insurance companies.

Stage III

Types of Insurance: This is an advanced stage that is linked to the second stage, to introduce the trainee to the academic aspects of insurance, particularly in respect of the following subjects:

Motor Insurance
Property Insurance & General Accidents
Liabilities
Marine Insurance
Construction Insurance
Medical Expense Insurance
Life and Disability Insurance
Specialty Products (travel, livestock, etc.)

Stage IV

Computer Application (Word / Excel)

This is considered to be a complementary stage to the previous ones as Computer is very important tool to manage many insurance operations.

Stage V

Individual Skills

This stage deals with the development of individual skills particularly:

marketing techniques
customer service
communications and insurance ethics.

Stage VI

Practical Training (optional phase)

In response to the request of parties for whom Al Shamil Insurance Programme is designed, a month-long practical training course is conducted in coordination with the insurance companies to facilitate the reinstation of employees in the United Arab Emirates.

Mechanism and Programme Implementation

Teaching staff: the teaching staff is chosen according to their experience and qualifications in insurance industry particularly in UAE
The duration of the Programme is two months, five-days-a-week and five-hours-a-day.
Al Shamil Insurance Programme will be conducted at the Institute premises in Sharjah or its branch in Abu Dhabi, equipped with the latest technologies in an ideal environment for training.
